What we collect — and what we don't.
This page is maintained by the Save Afterschool NYC volunteer coalition to answer common questions about how parent, worker, and provider information is handled. It is not a legal contract.
What we collect
- Action letters: your name, address, phone, email, school, and the description of family impact you choose to write.
- Parent / worker / press submissions: what you type into the form plus your contact info.
- Corrections: the email you send to
dycdparentaction@gmail.com. - Basic web logs: standard server logs from page visits. No advertising trackers.
Why we collect it
- To send the action letters you choose to elected officials and DYCD.
- To verify factual claims on the site against direct parent and provider reports.
- To follow up with you only about the action you submitted.
Who can see it
- Public letters: the recipients you select (Council Member, DYCD, Public Advocate, Comptroller) receive your letter and contact info — that is the point of the letter.
- Private submissions: a small number of coalition volunteers with administrative access.
- Attorneys: only after you give separate, explicit consent on a future secure legal-intake form. We do not forward your private submission to lawyers without that consent.
- Press: never, unless you check a box that says you want to be contacted by a reporter.
What is never published without consent
- Your child's name, photo, school, diagnosis, IEP, or 504 status.
- Your name as a "named petitioner" in any potential legal filing.
- PTA leader names, parent coordinator names, or principal names beyond what is already in public reporting.
- Photos of identifiable minors.
Separate databases
Public parent stories, private disability grievances, private legal intake, worker submissions, PTA/school contacts, and press contacts are kept separately. A City Council action does not get routed to a disability-grievance inbox.
Retention and deletion
We keep submissions only as long as needed to act on the campaign (typically through the end of the 2026–2027 school year). Email dycdparentaction@gmail.com to correct, withdraw, or delete anything you've submitted, and we will confirm within a reasonable time.
Security
This is a volunteer-run site, not a HIPAA or SOC-2 audited platform. We use standard hosting protections (HTTPS, access controls, no tracking pixels). Please treat the public action forms accordingly and reserve sensitive medical or legal documents for the secure channel referenced above.
Not legal advice
Nothing on this site is legal advice. The legal pages describe arguments parents are raising and are under counsel review. An Article 78 or disability-access claim requires a licensed attorney.
